UB Governing Documents
United Brethren Discipline
The Discipline is our “manual of operations,” stating what we believe on various issues, how we are organized, and how we operate as a church. It can be revised by a majority vote of the US National Conference. Each national conference has its own Discipline.
Pastoral Ministry Handbook
Most policies and procedures regarding ministers–licensing, assigning, accountability, etc.–are detailed in the Pastoral Ministry Handbook. The Pastoral Ministry Leadership Team has authority to revise it.
National Conference Covenant
All United Brethren churches in the United States must sign the National Conference Covenant every two years. It affirms six commitments the church makes.
Doctrinal Statements
Over the years, UB leaders have adopted statements on several theological issues, usually as a way to confront an issue which had arisen at that time, and which aren’t addressed clearly in the Confession of Faith. We have five doctrinal statements.
International Governing Documents
We are also part of an international fellowship in which churches from ten countries participate. The international church has its own governing documents–Confession of Faith, Constitution, Core Values, and By-Laws.
