Cathy graduated from Huntington University, as did her husband, Jon, and has lived in Huntington ever since. The Reichs are members of The Well in Huntington. They have three children.
Cathy holds an Associate of Arts degree in Christian Education and Music from Huntington University.
This is actually Cathy’s second stint at the UB Offices. In 1975, while still in college, she began working in the United Brethren printshop as a typesetter. She continued in that role until the printshop closed in 1982, at which point she became executive secretary to Paul Hirschy, then the Director of Church Services. She served in that role until 1984, when the first of her three children arrived.

On the Personal Side
I was born in Bryan, Ohio, and lived there until going to college. I know, boring, right? I loved living there!!!
I graduated from Huntington University in 1976 with an Associate of Arts degree in Christian Education and Music.
Hobbies and Special Interests
Camping. Grandkids. Attacking my bucket list with my Bible study girlfriends and/or husband.
In My Spare Time I Like to:
Read. Spend time with the family, especially playing games. JR and I have remodeled every room in every home we’ve owned (that’s only 2), and I’m getting the bug to do it again, but probably will stay put.
Meet My Husband
My husband’s real name is Jon, but he always goes by JR. He was born in Chicago, was raised in Portland, Oregon, and then moved to Peoria, Ill., while Peoria still had a United Brethren church. JR was in a youth group with Dave Rahn and Brent Birdsall and found his way to Huntington University.
How We Met
JR and I met on a college choir tour. I was trying to connect with someone new, but the someone new was more interested in someone else, so I asked JR to sit with me on the bus. The rest is history. Our first date was a walk along the railroad tracks at Huntington University. We were married in May 1976, the bicentennial year.
About My Children
- Matt, born in 1984, is married to one of the most resourceful people I know, Suzi. They have 3 children: Kayla (born in 2005), Cameron (2007) and Luci (2009).
- Our daughter, Emily, was born in 1991. In 2012 she married her longtime boyfriend Michael Cooley.
- Our youngest is Stephen, entered Ball State University in the fall of 2011, studying telecommunications. We’re not exactly sure what that means, but are confident his creativity will come to good use.
The first church we attended as a married couple was Grayston Avenue UB church in Huntington, Ind. It moved across town in 1980 and became Good Shepherd, and in 2009 closed its doors and was reborn as The Well.
What I Like About My Work
Everything! I love the people I work with, but mostly the people I work for–the pastors and churches. It’s great being a resource for them and helping them do ministry better in any small way that I can. I like making plans for Bishop Phil Whipple to visit with our pastors and churches, and arranging his travel. I absolutely love planning National Conference events, and get a huge thrill watching people connect while there. I’m looking forward to the future…and am not at all sorry to have become a Mac user.
My Favorite Vacation
It’s a toss-up between a week’s camping trip with another couple, or a cruise with my husband and 3 other couples.
I’m Allergic to:
Penicillin and bad attitudes.
An Interesting Former Job
Writing database software for a local company for their engineering department. I also used to be children’s pastor at my church.
