2023 Preview Meetings

The Preview meetings are all done. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Five in-person regional meetings and one online meeting will be held in early May to discuss the upcoming US National Conference (July 11-14 in Fort Wayne, Ind.). Bishop Todd Fetters will lead the meetings. These gatherings are open to anyone, but UB ministers and lay delegates are especially encouraged to attend. (All times are Eastern Standard Time.)

  • Monday, May 1: Sunfield UB church (Sunfield, Mich.). 9:00-11:30 am.
  • Wednesday, May 3: Emmanuel UB church (Fort Wayne, Ind.). 9:00-11:30 am.
  • Sunday, May 7: Lancaster UB church (Lancaster, Ohio). 6-8 pm.
  • Monday, May 8: King Street UB church (Chambersburg, Pa.).  9:00-11:30 am.
  • Tuesday, May 9: Atlantic Avenue UB church (Franklin, Pa.). 9:00-11:30 am.
  • Monday, May 15: Virtual for Anyone (online via Zoom). 7:00 – 8:30 pm.

Attendees will get a preview of about 30 proposals for revising the United Brethren Discipline. A representative from the Human Reproduction Task Force will explain their proposals for revising the Discipline with statements on abortion, family planning, reproductive technologies, adoption, foster care, and related issues. The regional meetings will give people a first-look at the proposals and an opportunity to discuss them in advance of the business meeting on July 12.

For those who can’t attend one of the regional meetings, we’ll have a virtual meeting on May 15.

Ministers and lay delegates are STRONGLY encouraged to participate in one of these meetings.

Materials to Read in Advance

The Preview Meetings will focus on these two documents, which outline proposed changes to the United Brethren Discipline.

1. Proposals for revising the Discipline. This document contains 20 possible changes (most small) to the Discipline.

2. Report of the Human Reproduction Task Force. This is the “White Paper” produced by the task force. Within this document you’ll find the wording for seven new statements to be added to the “Standards of the Church” section of the Discipline. They include statements on “The Beginning of Life,” “Family Planning,” “Adoption and Foster Care,” “Infertility,” “Assisted Reproduction,” “Abortion,” and “Human Reproduction and the Responsibility of the Church.”

Other reports may be available here.
